As is often the case with any new technology or innovation, incentives are offered to entice people to take advantage of a new concept thought to be outside the norm. Such has been the case with a range of clean transportation initiatives that have come on line in recent years.

Remember the slogan, “You’ve come a long way, baby!”? Well, women have, and that includes behind the wheel, as more women are taking up truck driving as a career. Truck driving is an equal opportunity profession, just like any other, but it is still made up of an overwhelming majority of men, and ladies are still having to iron out a few challenges in their path in order to be treated on par.

It happens more often than most people would like: civil lawsuits are filed every day on the merits of good reason, and other times, for reasons that have little basis for liability. Some fall in the middle, but still lead to unfair verdicts.

In this economic climate, it is hard to believe any industry could be facing a worker shortage, much less the trucking industry. But the potential is there. According to the American Trucking Associations (ATA), the trucking industry has been dealing with a driver shortage, one that could have a ripple effect on supply and the economy.

Over the last few months, Congress has been debating the conflict-ridden “Cap-and-Trade” bill, a.k.a The American Clean Energy and Security Act. Have you ever arrived to a location too early, and needed to park somewhere to wait until it was time to make your delivery? This happened to 35-year-old Jason Rivenburg of Fultonham, New York last March. He was only a few miles from where he planned to deliver a shipment of organic milk, but was ahead of schedule so decided to pull over to rest. Before he could make it to his drop-off point, Jason was shot and killed while waiting in what was considered to be a safe (but abandoned) gas station in St. Matthews, SC.
